Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing

The American Polygraph Association (APA) certifies examiners to conduct Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT). This course is an additional 40 hour course that is a requisite to those who practice sexual offender testing. Examiners attending this course must pass a written examination to receive a diploma for the training. Examiners with this certification are also required to attend continued training in this area of practice.


PCSOT Examinations are offered in the following categories:

  • Sexual History Examination: This type of examination determines if the individual has disclosed all of their deviant sexual history
  • Maintenance Examination: This type of examination is administered to identify problem behavior and the extent of the behavior. This examination can verify the claim of the client that he/she has NOT engaged in deviant and/or criminal behaviors (new criminal activity, drug/alcohol violations, prohibited contact with minors, pornography, masturbation and any other areas of interest). This examination will discover any secretive activity.
  • Specific Issue: This examination can be administered to determine the elements of the allegations/convictions especially if a client denies his/her crime of conviction. A Specific Issue examination can also be used if additional allegations surface.
